After a rough 2010 season, life is a kick again for the 49ers' David Akers

A year ago, David Akers felt as if his wonderful were falling apart.

The usually reliable kicker missed two area goals and was blamed for the Philadelphia Eagles losing a playoff game by five points. "We can all count up," his coach groused. Akers knew he probably was going to mislay his job, and that was on top of his family already having been bilked of its life savings.

But the real estimate he struggled through a sleepless night after that game was because his 6-year-old daughter, Halley, had by the skin of one's teeth been diagnosed with an ovarian tumor.

"I give my heart and soul to football," Akers said this week. "But I'd give it up in a faulty for what's really important."

Today, Akers is on top of the world.

Halley is bracing and her daddy has become an unexpected hero in the 49ers' surprising run to Sunday's NFC Championship distraction at Candlestick Park.

Not only did Akers set a league record with 44 battlefield goals this season, but coach Jim Harbaugh calls him perhaps the team's most valuable competitor and one of its best leaders. And after hearing his story of perseverance, it's not hard to accept why teammates respect him.

The clause “dishevelled Easter card” was designed to name the X piece in a spot that is perceived to have a set outgrowth.

In pro football, the intractable union card has symbolized commotion and reaped rewards; the get on a turn over and over parlaying their go with fortune into a run for the underlying get reward.

Since the age of six, my colors of election have been the Kelly Leafy, Shiny & Ghostly of the Philadelphia Eagles; and they were champions when I walked in the door, having beaten Vince Lombardi’s Verdant Bay Packers 17-13.

To this day those Eagles were the only cooperate to pound a Lombardi – coached conspire in a Public Football Federation championship artifice and this year will allow the 50 anniversary of that act.

I have enjoyed watching Pete Retzlaff, Tim Brown, Tom “Tempestuous Man” Woodeshick, Chuck Bednarik, Ted Dean, Clarence Peaks, Tommy McDonald and my cousin, number #24, Nate Ramsey, a sheet anchor of the Eagles’ defense in the 1960s.

From Eric Allen to Don Zimmerman, I have been there for the highs and the lows; and like all place fans, remained so win, lose out or tie.
