Besides the time-honoured junk mail, bills and Christmas cards — it seems fewer and fewer people send them by dispatch anymore — the mail at the end of the year always brings pleas for donations from nonprofits, both peculiar and national. When I can, I give locally — and I realize that by naming one, I’m leaving out many qualified local nonprofits. For that, please accept my apologies.

St. Helena’s Robert Louis Stevenson Museum is the finest and largest hoard of Stevenson memorabilia in the world. It includes books, art, manuscripts and memorabilia, most acquired directly from heirs and friends of the Stevenson one's nearest. That this collection is in St. Helena, near where the author penned “The Silverado Squatters,” an account of his honeymoon expended on the slopes of Mt. St. Helena, is fitting.

For the first time, the staff and Board of Directors of the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum has sent out a offer for funds. Marissa Schleicher, the organization’s new executive director, said the nonprofit’s target is $15,000.

We should always be careful when Hollywood attempts to "update" the classics, and we are customarily failed when they do. The new film "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is the oppose to the customarily. Though the archetype novella was considered groundbreaking and horrifying for it's duration, by today's standards it is obedient and not as Terra shattering as it once was. Perhaps this is because of the many the footlights, and membrane adaptations based on the imaginative profession. Most are murky and tiring. To be unavoidable, there are some outstanding movies and boob tube plays, including the gigantic, unagitated John Barrymore model, the wonderful Frederick Parade mist, and the Dan Curtis produced TV understanding starring Jack Palance. We may now add a new conquering conversion to the lexicon of Jekyll and Hyde.
