MARSHALL - One never knows what will materialize when you give an imaginative student a blank piece of paper, though many of those students who attended the 20th annual Symposium for Young Writers Thursday at Southwest Minnesota State University were on their way to constructing solitary and entertaining creations.

For two decades, the Southwest/West Central Mending Cooperative has sponsored the writing conference, but this year marked the largest gathering of all.

"We had just under a thousand attending," event organizer Andrea Anderson said. "We had 30 inculcate districts represented."

Anderson, who is a student activities assistant at the Care Cooperative, has helped organize the event for the past eight years, but had to wince some additional hurdles this year.

"The biggest challenge was making reliable the kids are getting as many of the sessions they signed up for as possible," Anderson said. "With 220 students over our totality last year, we had to do some scrambling to get additional presenters. But it worked out. We've got some really gracious ones.

From accounts of civilized rights heroes, to horrible (and promising) stories about up to date teenagers, to essence books that literally capture affection, vertu, or flights of hunger for, 2009 held a hoard trove of wonderful reading for children of all ages and interests. Narrowing them down to no more than 30 titles wasn't an undemanding lecture, but we conjecture the following books defence out for their odd review, permanent characters, and remarkable artwork.
